Think you’re suffering from plantar fasciitis? Read this.

Plantar fasciitis. It’s a tongue twister of a word that you might have never heard, but I’m sure a lot of you have felt its symptoms before. As podiatrists, plantar fasciitis is by far the most common cause of foot pain that we see present in our clinics.

And let me tell you it is not a fun thing to be dealing with. Having to hobble out of bed in the morning like your 90 year old grandad gets pretty old pretty quickly. Thankfully it can be treated and you can be back springing out of bed for your morning run before you know it.

1. What is plantar fasciitis?
Plantar fasciitis is a common & painful foot condition. It occurs when your plantar fascia (a strong fibrous band that helps maintain the arch of your foot) becomes overloaded & strained.

2. What are the symptoms?
Common symptoms of plantar fasciitis include sharp heel pain with your first steps in the morning, increased pain after periods of rest or prolonged standing & tenderness under your heel that can extend along the arch.

3. Why is it painful?
Constant overloading of your plantar fascia can lead to inflammation & pain, particularly in the area where it originates from your heel bone.

4. Can I cure it without surgery?
Yes! Most people can cure their plantar fasciitis without surgery. Reducing strain on your plantar fascia is key. Orthotics, strengthening exercises & improved footwear are extremely effective treatments.

5. How SOLE5 orthotics help.
Our orthotics are specifically designed to directly support & reduce strain on your plantar fascia. Correcting your foot's biomechanics & redistributing excessive pressure allows your inflamed plantar fascia to heal.
